Place of event: Streets of Split
Split celebrates Carnival during February which culminates during the Shrove Tuesday procession around the Old Town along with open stage concerts and performances. As in other Croatian cities, Split set its Carnival prince, Krnjo, on fire at the end of the Carnival period. Krnjo serves as a symbol for all the misfortunes that have occured throughout year. During the celebration, Old Town is full of locals dressed in various costumes, usually home made and in most cases very comical. The celebration continues in bars and clubs which have special Carnival parties organized all night long.
