Pazar is the local Split word for an open-air market while Trznica is the official Croatian word. The Trznica or open-air market towards the east of the old city walls sells all kinds of cheese, flowers, fresh fruits, vegetables and also gadgets of every kind, including the most modern mobile phone accessories. Thought provoking and funny mobile phone covers, cheap sunglasses, and the huge beach towels featuring Hadjuk Split are other attractions of the market.

The Pazar or Green Market is the best place to go to for fresh vegetables and fruits. Other food items available in this bustling market are bread, cheese, olive oil and smoked meats, among others. Souvenirs and clothes are also sold in certain sections of the market.

Another market that is worth a visit is the daily market of Split. The market opens every morning at 7 am and closes at 1 pm. Located next to the bus terminal and the ferry wharf, the market offers the best deals on fresh vegetables and fruits, olive oil, local brandies, and every imaginable kind of food and beverage. Stalls also sell clothes, shoes, tools utensils, electronic goods and many other miscellaneous items. Locals love the market and rural people sell their wares here. The sheer energy and vibrancy of the market is worth experiencing.

Split's famous fish market opens at 8 am and closes at 10 am. Local fishermen display and sell their nightly catch every morning. The fish market is in the middle of Diocletian's Palace.
