Getting to Split

By Air

After Zagreb Airport, the Split Airport is Croatia's most important airport. There are regular and charter flights to major European cities although charter flights are more frequent in summer. Located near Trogir, the airport is about 25 km towards the west of Split. Direct buses from the airport to the waterfront charge 30 kunas per ride while the local buses that go by the airport charge less than that. The Pleso Transport Company runs a shuttle bus between the city centre and the airport but since the bus schedule is fixed according to the flight schedule of Croatia Airlines, the bus is not a very convenient option for passengers travelling by the other airlines.

By Train

The Split railway station is located in the city centre and is within walking distance of the old town and the port. Every train is greeted by friendly grandmotherly ladies holding signs that say Sobe (rooms) and they pounce on anyone travelling with a backpack. Trains connect Split with Zagreb and Perković where travellers can take one of the many connecting trains to Šibenik. Five daily trains from Split go to Perković and the one-hour train ride takes travellers through the picture perfect village and valley of Primorski Dolac.

By Bus

An efficient and frequent bus service connects Split with all the major cities including Dubrovnik, Rijeka, Šibenik, Zadar and Zagreb. A few daily buses connect Split with Mostar and Sarajevo as well. Local buses connect Split with Solin and Trogir. All intercity buses charge a luggage fee.

By Boat

Ancona and Pescara in Italy are located on the other side of the Adriatic Sea and are connected with Split by a thrice-a-week ferry service. Dubrovnik and Rijeka lie along the same coast and are connected by a large ferry that runs twice a week. The ferry service includes stops at a few islands that lie along the route, including popular Hvar and Korcula. Split is Central Dalmatia's main hub for local hydrofoil and boat services.

Getting Around Split

The airport and most of the attractions on the outskirts of Split are accessible by the local bus and taxi services. The sights inside Split are within walking distance of each other.

By Bike

By Bus

Although most of the city buses are quite new, there are a few old and rundown buses as well. Tickets can be purchased from the bus driver or at specified kiosks. All tickets are single-journey tickets. After boarding the bus, get your ticket validated by the driver or use the yellow machines provided for the service.
